Trump Is The Antithesis To The Social Contract And To Public Decorum
Our children and their children do not deserve this kind of future!
The social contract theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau all stressed that the justification of the state depends on showing that EVERYONE would, in some way, consent to it. By relying on consent, social contract theory seemed to suppose a voluntarist conception of political justice and obligation: what counts as “justice” of “obligation” depends on what people agree to—whatever that might be. Our constitution is our guide for our social contract. Unfortunately in our country today we have a former president who wants to terminate our social contract!
The number one responsibility of the President is the safety and security of all of the American people and the nation. United We Stand, divided we fall. Our choices in November are, a President who has shown himself to be a President for all Americans, or a former President who couldn’t care less about your safety or anyone else’s safety unless you are totally loyal to him!
President Biden has a reputation for probity and rectitude. Two qualities that Trump and his MAGA rats will never possess! I do not agree with President Biden on all his policies but I will vote for him because he is a Constitutionalist and he is a leader for all the American people not just those who agree with him!
I’m in the same camp as Morning Joe Scarborough. He said that his Pyramid from the top down is, God, Country, Constitution, Conservatism, Politicians, and then Party!
I’m an unaffiliated Constitutional Conservative that will never vote for any politician in today’s Republican Party. In fact I will be voting Democrat up and down the ballot to preserve our democracy!
Decorum is the requirement of correct behavior in a polite and civilized society. What comes from Trump on a daily basis is petulant and abhorrent behavior! The former president of the United States is now attacking judge Merchan and his daughter!
DISGUSTING AND DESPICABLE!
Trump Crossing Historical RedLines:
Grab em by the pussy. When you are a star they let you do it!
First American president to refuse the peaceful transfer of power!
Called lost military soldiers losers and suckers!
Admires and compliments the dictators of our adversaries!
Calls our Democratic Party communist and the deep state!
Uses racist nicknames for his fellow American adversaries!
Called antisemitic white nationalists very fine people!
Calls immigrants crossing the southern border animals!
He declassified government documents just by thinking about it!
Trump continues to badmouth President Biden and his administration! What is Trump doing to make America better? He has nothing good to say, PERIOD!
Who do we want as a role model for our children?
Trump is the absolute worst role model for our children. It turns my stomach whenever he says anything or shows up on television. My wife leaves the room! I just ignore him by lowering the volume and reading my iPad.
Trump should have been the 5th member of the gang from OZ. He needed everything the others were searching for. No heart, no brain, and no courage.
Keith Olson: Thank you so very, very much for sharing.
It is a painful time for Conservatism.
Like you, I have studied almost all of the work of Thomas Hobbes and his close kin in philosophy, Baruch de Spinoza, as well as John Locke -- Essay Concerning Human Understanding and his Second Treatise on Government, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau (Social Contract; Discourse on Inequality, Emile), David Hume (Treatise of Human Understanding; Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Enquiry into the Principle of Morals), Edmund Burke on the French Revolution, John Stuart Mill on Liberty . . . John Rawls, Theory of Justice.
Having been born in the late '40s, Bill Buckley is a long-lived memory of mine.
Bill Buckley engaged in the Conservative dialogue we need and he did so in a most pleasant way.
Buckley and Goldwater rejected pronouncedly the John Birch Society in 1964 and Buckley hosted a Milton-Friedman and Friedrich-Hayek type intellectual framework both on his "Firing Line" and his "National Review."
With Reagan, there was the potential for a framework in the Republican Party around Buckley-type Conservatism.
Starting with Jimmy Carter and emphatically through Ronald Reagan, America began working with the Vatican, Solidarity, to chip away daily at Soviet Power, and I was a proud member of the Navy Office of General Counsel during the welcome buildup of the Navy (not to speak of the other services).
What a proud Republican Party it was.
I do not understand why there was a hostile takeover of the Party nor why the Republican Leviathan turned out to have feet of clay.
What we have today with Party leaders who bow to Vladimir Putin and the Russian war crimes shames the grand heritage of the Republican Party of Bob Dole and Jack Kemp, whom I proudly voted for when Clinton was shaming the Presidency.
We need strong, Milton-Friedman, Friedrich Hayek Conservatism.
You see, I personally am liberal, but I believe in a multiplicity of voices. It is not healthy to have only one party out of the two remain sane and Constitutionally based.
Because the two extremes -- right and left -- ultimately meet.
Every Democrat has a stake, whether he knows it or not, in a healthy, strong, even majority, Conservative Republican Party of sound principles.
Because the Democrats could end up with their own Demagogues.
Think not?
I am bilingual with the German language.
Because of the horrors of WWII, the Germans are more informed on Democracy than is the average American citizen. On ZDF and ARD (main media), the political debate is vigorous and CIVIL.
But there is Sahra Wagenknecht, who is so left that she has formed a Party in her own name: Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht.
Wagenknecht is very much an intellectual, and she is very well spoken, and photogenic.
Wagenknecht advocates positions that too many times she is able to ally with AfD.
And who are AfD?
They are Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) -- "Alternative for Germany".
Strangely, extreme left and extreme right (dangerously near to neo-Nazis) meet on issues.
And both are characterized by Demagoguery.
Think it cannot happen here?
How long can it be before a populist on the left sees the hopelessness of fighting the Right with traditional methods before he, too, turns to unconstitutional means.
Some of the violent movements in Germany from the 1970s forward were not from the Right, but from the Left.
If we lose to Trump in 2024, how good will it continue to look to Democrats to follow the advice of Michelle Obama: They aim low, we aim high?
When we see the cost of a Trump Presidency, should it come, how long before in desperation would it be before a shining Demagogue from the left try to cheat the system.
It is not new in American history.
In the 1930s, Huey Long promised a car in every garage and chicken in every kitchen, and he surrounded himself with a militia.
No, I myself am a liberal. And I feel strongly, America NEEDS a solid, intellectual, popularly supported Conservatism.
Of course, I feel we need Liberalism, I am one.
But each side has solid ideas for the common welfare, and enlightened persons on each side value the discourse with the other side.
There should be friendships in the Senate and House among Party members of opposites.
Starting with Newt Gingrich -- an intellectual with innovative ideas but also who froths with venom -- along with Lee Atwater, they started the decline into mutual loathing between the Parties.
It must be reversed.
But it has progressed so far, so long, one can only ask: HOW?!
